Shotbox is the screen recorder, video editor and screenshot tool I wanted to exist: the polish of the best screen recorders and the editing of the best video tools, in one app that keeps everything on your Mac.
Making a good software video used to mean a screenshot tool, a screen recorder that makes recordings look polished, and a separate editor for captions and cuts. Usually with an upload step in the middle and a subscription for each.
Shotbox puts all of it in one native Mac app. Capture and annotate screenshots, record your screen with your camera and voice, then polish it with automatic zooms, a smooth cursor, captions, titles, a teleprompter and your brand. All of it on your Mac.
Hi, I’m Josh. I build Shotbox.
I wanted Shotbox to cost less than the tools it replaces, and to be an easy yes. So I priced it at what I pay for a pint of my usual: £5.60 a month, cancel any time. If the pint goes up, I’ll think about it. Probably over a pint.
No uploads, no telemetry, no cloud rendering, no remote transcription. Shotbox goes online to fetch a web page you paste and ask for, and once a month to check your subscription.
The editor and the exporter draw with the same renderer, because a preview that lies is worse than no preview.
Recordings, screenshots and projects are ordinary files. Anything that would delete one asks first, and deleting from history moves it to the Trash.
macOS permissions can fail in confusing ways. Shotbox says which one is missing and what to do, and can reset a stale one for you.
Built in Swift for macOS 14 and later, as one universal app for Apple Silicon and Intel.
Every build runs about 1,700 automated checks, from capture to export, before it ships.
