Record / Screen recorder

Record once. Get the whole kit.

Press ⌥⇧⌘5, drag out an area and talk. Shotbox records the screen, your camera, mic and system audio, plus every move of the pointer, so the editor can polish it afterwards.

A setup panel, not a settings maze

Live camera preview, camera and device picker, system audio, the starting layout and a countdown, all chosen as you start.

Mic and system audio together

Your voice and the app’s sound are mixed into one track, lined up by timestamp, so neither drifts.

Camera on its own file

The camera is recorded separately, so you can restyle, move or remove it in the editor at no cost.

Recorded for editing

In Studio mode the pointer is sampled 120 times a second and the system cursor is left out of the video. That’s what lets the editor draw a smooth cursor and zoom in where you clicked.

  • H.264 MP4 straight from the capture, no re-encode
  • Or record a GIF that keeps its full length
  • Pointer recording needs no Accessibility permission

Nothing gets in the shot

Shotbox leaves its own windows out of every recording: the editor, the library, a pinned screenshot. The recording bar and the teleprompter never appear, even when you choose to film Shotbox itself.

  • Quitting mid-recording saves the file first
  • If macOS stops the capture, what was recorded is kept
  • Warns about macOS camera effects before you record

Things that can’t go wrong

5
Shotbox stays out
Its editor, library, launcher and pinned shots are left out of every recording
Quit safely
Quitting mid-recording finishes and saves the file first
If macOS stops it
A disconnected display or the system Stop button keeps what was recorded
Mic refused?
It records system audio and tells you up front, instead of failing
Camera effects warning
macOS effects like Portrait or background replacement are baked in, so Shotbox warns before you record and can reach the control to turn them off
